Are You Confused About Medicare?

Clarifying Medicare in 5 minutes...

CLARITY CORNER

Bringing clarity to the confusion around the different parts of Medicare

PART A

Hospital Insurance

This helps cover in-patient care in hospitals, skilled nursing facility care, home health care, and hospice. The cost component of Part A includes a zero-dollar monthly premium with 10 or more years of work experience. This includes a hospital deductible of $1,600 in 2023.

*Original Medicare

PART B

Medical Insurance

This helps cover services from doctors and other health care providers, outpatient care, preventive and diagnostic tests lab tests, and durable medical equipment. The monthly Part B base premium is $170.10 in 2022. This may vary based on income. There is also an annual Part B deductible of $226 in 2023.

*Original Medicare

PART C

Medicare Advantage

Part C includes Part A and Part B type coverage through private insurance companies and typically bundles prescription drugs and other health benefits as well. Medicare Advantage plans are an alternative to Original Medicare from the federal government. Monthly premiums are often $0 but deductibles, insurance, and copays are paid as medical services are incurred.

PART D

Prescription Drug Coverage

This is coverage for prescription drugs you pick up from the pharmacy or via mail order. Part D is offered through plans approved by Medicare and sold by private insurance companies. Monthly costs include premiums, deductibles, and drug copays. Like Part B, the Part D premiums may vary based on income. Drug copays can vary by pharmacy as well.

Part "YOU"

Part "YOU” starts with:

  1. Understanding your current health, family, and retirement situation—your wants, needs, and worries.
  2. Identifying how to address the uncovered Medicare coverage gaps with Medicare Supplement plans.
  3. Checking your doctor participation and drug coverage as you consider Part C plans.
  4. Evaluating your current medication list to find the lowest cost Part D plan for your meds.
  5. Showing how to cover important health care needs that Medicare does not cover, like dental, vision, hearing, and long-term care.
  6. Listening, and explaining in simple terms your options so you can arrive at a personalized Medicare coverage solution that’s right for you.

And it means staying with you as health and plans change over time to always have you in the right coverage along the way.

“Bottom line: if you are approaching 65, and have questions/anxiety about Medicare options, save yourself a lot of time (and trepidation about the myriad of options) and call Mark Kapsky. My wife and I spent a lot of time reading up on websites and looking at information. We were still confused, and a little bit worried about how Medicare would work best for us after a lifetime of private insurance. Mark is a fountain of knowledge: he calmly and clearly laid it all out for us in about 30 minutes. He clarified our options and guided us to the best solution for our needs, both for Medigap Insurance and Prescription Drug plans. In short, Mark is a true professional--he not only knows his stuff, but he is a pleasure to work with.”
